Central and Eastern Europe

Study on historical floods

In collaboration with the Global Water Partnership in Central and Eastern Europe (GWP CEE) hosted by the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMI), a pilot project in the Central and Eastern Europe has focused on the preparation of a status of the impacts of - and responses to various flood events with a focus on flash floods. Twelve events from seven countries were studied and published in form of a summary report. The following countries have reported events and thus contributed to a better understanding of the nature of the events as well as the available coping mechanisms: Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovak Republic, and Slovenia.

The following links provide the various flood event studies in detail:

                      Bulgaria                   Czech Republic                  Lithuania                       Poland

                      Romania                 Slovak Republic                  Slovenia
